Jailhouse rocks again

Back to the prison, a similar shot as the first one, but with different local lighting conditions. Camera: Canon IXUS 170 handheld Aperture: f/3.6 Focal length: 4.5 mm Exposure time: 1/15 ISO speed: 800 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Float on

There was plenty of activity in the city centre of Leeuwarden, possibly connected to the start of the academic year. Here are a few of scores of people navigating along the city canals, standing on little boats. Camera: Canon IXUS 170 handheld Aperture: f/3.6 Focal length: 4.5 mm Exposure time: 1/500 ISO speed: 400 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Bicycle art

A detail of a larger sculpture of a bicycle, constructed from rusty bicycle parts. We encountered this one in the prison yard. Camera: Canon IXUS 170 handheld Aperture: f/3.6 Focal length: 4.5 mm Exposure time: 1/100 ISO speed: 200 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Jailhouse rocks

One of the highlights of the trip to Leeuwarden was our first visit to the old prison, which is now used as hotel and office space, while preserving many of the aspects of its original purpose. Camera: Canon IXUS 170 handheld Aperture: f/3.6 Focal length: 4.5 mm Exposure time: 1/20 ISO speed: 500 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Leeuwarden lineplay

First in a series of shots I took during a day-trip to Leeuwarden last week. This one was shot inside an art piece on the side walk, aiming up (and not being able to see the picture about to be taken). I like the asymmetry in this shot. Camera: Canon IXUS 170 handheld Aperture: f/10.0 Focal length: 4.5 mm Exposure time: 1/320 ISO speed: 200 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

More Deventer umbrellas

Another take on the subject of decorative street umbrellas in Deventer that I first posted about last week (link). Camera: Canon IXUS 170 handheld Aperture: f/11.0 Focal length: 7.1 mm Exposure time: 1/320 ISO speed: 200 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Preparing sails

Another example of a volunteer depicting an old profession in the Enkhuizen Zuiderzee Museum, in this case the making of sails. Very appropriate for the museum/s subject. Camera: Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-300 mm lens handheld Aperture: f/4.2 Focal length: 30.0 mm Exposure time: 1/30 ISO speed: 720 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Outside the classroom

One of many highlights of the Zuiderzee Museum Enkhuizen is the old village school. Outside the classroom was space for the children to leave their wooden shoes. A lovely sight. Camera: Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-300 mm lens handheld Aperture: f/4.0 Focal length: 28.0 mm Exposure time: 1/30 ISO speed: 4000 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Making barrels

One of many special displays in the Enkhuizen Zuiderzee Museum, depicting professions of a century ago. They are manned by expert volunteers rather than mannequins. Camera: Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-300 mm lens handheld Aperture: f/4.0 Focal length: 28.0 mm Exposure time: 1/30 ISO speed: 900 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Nets

Not surprisingly, fishing and all its attributes play an important role in the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen. I like the abstract feeling of this shot of fishing nets, with its contrasts of circular and linear shapes. Camera: Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-300 mm lens handheld Aperture: f/8.0 Focal length: 18.0 mm Exposure time: 1/250 ISO speed: 400 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Zuiderzee chains

Of course, a setting like the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen offers plenty of opportunities for chains shots - that I continue to require for my art blog. Camera: Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-300 mm lens handheld Aperture: f/5.6 Focal length: 155.0 mm Exposure time: 1/100 ISO speed: 400 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Canvas abstraction

A zoom in on a canvas sail of a boat moored in a canal in the Zuiderzee Museum Enkhuizen. I liked the combination of curves and colours. Camera: Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-300 mm lens handheld Aperture: f/5.6 Focal length: 78.0 mm Exposure time: 1/250 ISO speed: 400 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Three smoky eyes

Last week we visited the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen. The first thing you see when you come off the boat is this collection of calciantion ovens. I went for black and white to create a vintage effect. Camera: Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-300 mm lens handheld Aperture: f/11.0 Focal length: 24.0 mm Exposure time: 1/500 ISO speed: 400 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0

Deventer umbrellas

A shot I took on a day trip to nearby Deventer last week, where in some of the streets they had hung scores of umbrellas to liven up the place. Successfully. Camera: Canon IXUS 170 handheld Aperture: f/13.0 Focal length: 10.3 mm Exposure time: 1/320 ISO speed: 250 Post-processing: Picasa 3.0
